Style file fashion David Beckham

It might have been his world-class football skills that first brought David Beckham to our attention, but since making his debut for the England squad back in 1996, the Leyton-born sportsman has racked up an impressive list of extracurricular achievements: underwear model (and designer), style icon, one half of Britain's most illustrious power couple alongside his wife Victoria, global heartthrob, committed dad-of-four. No small feat for a man man who's just turned 40 - something he's celebrating with his hat-trick GQ cover this month.

However, we're here to talk about his style. What's great about Beckham is that he's one of the few A-list guys that isn't afraid to experiment with his look - and he rarely uses a stylist to help him out. In fact, you'll often find Beckham turning-out the big fashion and grooming trends way ahead of the menswear masses. The man bun, the gentleman's buzzcut, the summer pool slider - Becks called them all first.

Don't be fooled into thinking he's a one-trick pony - while he regularly switches up his haircut and wardrobe, he anchors his more experimental fashion moments by really knowing his way around a suit. Whether slipping into black tie on the red carpet or looking sharp in a Prince of Wales suit at Wimbledon, Beckham's tailoring game is just as good as his clout on the pitch.

That being said, while he looks stellar suited-up, he also has a knack for making the most basic of sportswear items look superb. Even when he's juggling a suitcase in one hand, Harper Beckham in the other and avoiding the paparazzi through LAX, you can bet he'll still be looking fresh in the most simple of sports-luxe get-ups: a white T-shirt, shorts, trainers and a snapback.
